Jian Anna Xiong

Jian Anna Xiong has been Government Information Librarian at Morris Library, Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) since September 2003 and Associate Professor since 2009.
Jian received her Masters of Library Science degree from the University of Indiana Bloomington in May 2003. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is in German Language and Literature from Nanjing University in P.R. China. She also held a second Master’s degree of German Language and Literature specialized in Diplomatic Relations of Germany from Beijing Foreign Studies University in P.R. China.
Since 2003 Jian served as the local manager of Federal and IL State Depository Library Programs in Morris Library, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC), coordinating all government documents related library collections, reference and instruction services, as well as activities to ensure the library as a point of equal and free access to government information for the constituents of SIUC and the citizens of Illinois' 12th Congressional District.
Jian has served as liaison to History Department for 10 years. Now she is the subject liaison to various departments - Political Science, Social Work, Foreign Languages and Literatures, as well as Linguistics, developing collections, reference and instruction services in support of their education and research mission.
Jian has a continuous strong record of research activities and publications, such as peer reviewed journal articles, core journal articles, and other journal articles, book chapters, newsletters, reviews, presentations, posters, exhibits, research guides, grants, and so forth. Now her research interests include the impact of the technology on library and information professionals and the challenges they face in today’s digital world, especially relating to the digital scholarship, open access and scholarly communication, copyright, digital humanities, government information, assessment of library and organization programs and services.
Jian has also been active in professional services, chairing or serving on many committees at the national, state, regional, and local levels.
